I never thought in a million years I would be so grateful for a full night's sleep. OMG, it was amazing!
In other sleep-related news, I managed to snap out of my sleep-paralysis out of sheer will last time it happened, and I'm ridiculously proud of myself!
I've mentioned it before, and it's apparently a pretty common phenomenon - lucid dreaming while being unable to move, often with the experience of *something* being in the room, or weighing you down, oftentimes accompanied by a buzzing sound as well.
In old-fashioned Danish, a nightmare is translated to literally mean a mare-ride; the Mare being a mythical creature that climbs on top of you in your sleep and gives you bad dreams. So whether you believe it's a psychological or a paranormal phenomenon, it is certainly a thing that's been with us for quite a while.
For me, it usually happens in that half-asleep state, and I experience a weight pushing me down, usually farther down into the mattress than you would logically be able to go. And my body is SO heavy, I can't speak or reach out, but I've been working on opening my eyes to see what's there, and lifting my arms in an attempt to struggle, getting incrementally stronger every time. And last time, I was able to force myself awake when I felt it starting. The Mare tried twice before giving up. I kind of hope she gave up for good, instead of coming back with reinforcements. :) Then again, if I'm learning to control it, I'd rather this be my battle than someone else's. If that's even how these things work...
Now I just need to figure my way out of the other sleep paralysis I have, where I'm in bed, unable to move, and I can hear *someone who is not Sven* moving around in the house... Somehow, that's way creepier to me than having something/someone sit on me.
