Right, so! Two fairly major items crossed off the to-do list at work today. Feels good.
1) Vacation money and SH backlog corrected, withdrawn, and transferred to correct locations. (One small comfort is the tax bill the boys'll be facing next spring when they've suddenly earned more money than expected. I could remind them to make adjustments to their personal tax info, but... shan't. It's petty, but I don't care. They just put me through hell, and I ain't their mom OR their financial advisor.)
2) Setup of new - EXTREMELY DETAILED - payslips completed. Man, that took forever. (Excel spreadsheet for own reference also completed, but might need tweaking; am undecided.) Let's hope I did everything right. I've booked a check-up next month with the company that manages our salary payments, so if I've made some egregrious error, it's only two or three payments I'll have to go back and fix instead of EIGHT fucking YEARS' worth.
So. Yes. Acceptable Monday. Which is good, considering that last night, the thought of today - even of just going to sleep - made me physically nauseous and put knots in my stomach. I self-medicated with chamomile tea, and that usually only happens if I'm suffering from a severe flu. I'm actually reluctant to go to sleep these days, because I'm having such a miserable time of it. Because it brings me one day closer to all the terrible that is work right now.
But, with today settled, now all there's left is to knuckle down and not come up for air until I've invoiced ALL THE THINGS! Which MUST be by December 31st. I have 6½ weeks (because Christmas) so that ought to be doable.
A very nice lady called last week and asked me if I'd be interested in taking on an intern. I usually say no, because I'm pretty sure that people who are in need of an internship in order to complete a course in office work is probably WAY ahead of me in every way, and what the hell could I teach them anyway? But this time I think I might accept. I just have to figure out the practical aspect of things, like computer access and desk space, but an extra pair of hands would be a godsend right about now, and if it turns out they ARE better at my job than I am, well then, great!
