I've done it again. I've been sucked into an endless fanfic, and I can't stop reading, and the whole time I'm thinking, "why am I even reading this?"
It has all my least favorite things: No line breaks, no punctuation, rogue dialogue indication without actual dialogue, missing words (like "not" or "isn't," which obviously makes a huge difference to your reading comprehension.) The storyline is all over the place, there's gratutious chattering author's notes at the end, which include explaining what actually happened *in case you didn't understand from having just read the chapter,* which is actually a possibility, considering the missing words.
The author is one of those 'fly by the seat of your pants'-writers, which can be cute, but this person needs a beta like whoa. She's good, though, the story is compelling enough that I want to continue reading, but oh my god, it's so frustrating to have to stop and reread a sentence fourteen times to glean some meaning from it. And all of a sudden, random action scenes, which serves nothing to forward the plot or character development. Just 'cuz.
I'm clenching a lot of things trying to get through this, is what I'm saying, and I can't understand why I don't give it up as a lost cause. By now, this is the most exercise I've gotten so far this year, so at least there's that. But seriously: When an update to one of the many other stories I'm subscribed to dumps into my inbox, and my first thought is, "thank god - a palate cleanser," then maybe it's time to let this monster go...
For the record, the last fanfic I complained about, I never returned to after making my update. Perhaps wasting your time with my griping is what is needed for me to get it out of my system.
In other news, I would really love to make it through just ONE day of not spilling, or knocking something over, or generally just making a huge mess. In that vein, it should be noted that coffee is meant for drinking, not sopping up off various surfaces, and anything fish related does not belong on the floor, especially one that is difficult to clean. Uggghh!!
